Sate & Lips @ Senayan

It’s lunch time! This time around we visited local restaurant Sate Khas Senayan for some Sate! We ordered some of our regulars and some rarities. The Sate in Indonesia is slightly different from the local variant with served with thick creamy peanut butter like sauce vs. our regular peanut sauce which was really great.

Something new we tried was the local ox tail soup fish together with something we don’t regularly see served which is beef lips served in gado gado style.

The beef lips were interesting in texture but the beef based black sauce took some getting used to. Once we did it was quite the delicacy.

Oh yes do try the sayur lodeh, which is vegetable in coconut sauce. It’s a change from the regular one served in Singapore but just as good!

Hidden Expresso @ Giyanti Coffee Roaster

So here we are in another hidden cafe. This time somewhere more interesting. If you were travelling along this place you might think that the Viet coffee at the driveway is the place we are talking about.

Well not really... see that archway? Walk through the alleyway and... Welcome to Giyanti Coffee Roastery! A magical hole in the wall coffee place.

Segrmented into 3 to 4 different themed seating areas you could pick and choose where you would want to sit and have your coffee.

So we ordered our coffee an affogato with canele and a Portuguese egg tart.

Egg tart was light and fluffy and the affogato was a unique twist with the canele. The coffee was fragrant and the atmosphere was perfect to just chill.

Bring a partner or go solo to get inspired.

Waffles & Ricotta Cream @ 1/15

So the adventure begins! Today is cafe hopping time in Jakarta! First stop that we will be heading to is 1/15 a new hipster cafe that opened up near the heart of the city.

In an unassuming house it’s somewhere that will be missed if you don’t look past the cars that are parked outside the cafe.

Ok so the tea and coffee blends here are fragrant and really well blended. We had the ricotta strawberry waffle which was really nice! Total damage is $25 Sgd and really worth it!

And we are off to the next location!

Mouth watering ribs @ Tesate Grand Indonesia

Our hunt for food doesn’t just stop on our shores. We have always enjoyed the food within Asia but never really had the chance to showcase it till today.

So today we decided to take a flight to Jakarta and try to find out what is all the fuss about the great food people were finding in Indonesia.

We reached Grand Indonesia Mall and found this place called Tesateresta. Which serves the most delicious food! It may be abit pricy coming in at about $60 SGD but here is why we loved it.

The beef ribs were perfectly soft and delicious with two pieces of ribs the bone literally slides off the bone.

We also tried this vegetable that originated from the papaya flower. It’s originally bitter but fried with anchovies it changes the flavour profile completely.

This place serves purple rice for those looking for a healthier variety vs your standard white rice.

And finally desert was this ultra tasty mix of handmade original Indonesian desert with a side of coconut ice cream. This we thought was a highlight that you absolutely must try when you are here.

Ordering from the menu was easy as they had the English translation on the side. Hope you will enjoy it as much as we had!
